Engineering Analysis
Many mechanical design projects require some analysis work to ensure predictable design intent results. In addition, some clients are in need of analysis work to better understand the feasibility of a design before embarking upon the actual design of a project.
Precision Mechanical Design has extensive experience with the following types of analysis:
Stress / Strain Analysis
Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Dynamics
Motor Sizing / Selection
Dynamic Modeling of Mechanical Systems
(a typical example would be mathematically modeling the reflected inertias of various components of a machine as felt by the motors of the system to determine motor sizing requirements)
Magnetic Analysis (including equivalent magnetic circuit analysis)
Shrink fits of cylindrical components
Fatigue Analysis (i.e. life calculations)
Ball Bearing Life Calculations
PMD will often perform analysis that we refer to as a "Bachelor's degree level of analysis". That is, analysis using time-tested means for mathematically modelling typical engineering situations. These are typically represented well by first-order-approximation mathematics or basic analysis software. In addition, for extremely critical analysis results, PMD can call upon resources with high level specialties in various areas of mechanical / magnetic analysis, with access to very sophisticated analysis software (such as Ansys for mechanical analysis, magnetic-specific software for motor design, etc.)
